🏄🏽 The country might be better known as a diver's heaven, but the Maldivian archipelago is also home to some of the best surf breaks on Earth. The waves might be less punchy than in neighbouring Indonesia, known all over the world for its surfing culture, but the Maldives remains a dreamy surfer's destination, particularly from April to October.

🏨 It is possible to do Maldives on a budget, and this includes getting a taste of the resort experience. Some famous resort chains offer daily packages, allowing guests to spend a few hours enjoying the facilities and indulging in some top-class food and drinks, including alcoholic beverages.

🌊 The underwater world of the Maldives is beautiful and rich, and even as a visitor, you can also play your part in protecting it for future generations. For example, the UK-based charity Manta Trust is very active in the Maldives. If you spot a manta during one of your dives, try to snap a picture of its belly and submit it to the Manta Trust's ID program (individuals can be identified thanks to the spots on their belly!). This identification initiative allows us to better understand the behaviour and migratory routes of this majestic species in the Maldives - and across the world.
